Slough 07/11/25— Keel Drive Allotment Association once again partnered with Reckitt Benckiser, one of Slough’s largest employers, to deliver a major community volunteering day that brought together wellbeing, sustainability, and teamwork in action.
Led by Meeta Nakum, Chair of Keel Drive Allotment Association, a team of 12 Reckitt volunteers spent the day transforming the site through hands-on environmental projects. This visit was focused on a specially designed communal plot being created for the well-being of tenants. Together they built raised growing beds, constructed new composting bays, and prepared and installed a wildlife pond and biodiversity zone — all designed to promote sustainability and community wellbeing.

This collaboration builds on the success of the previous partnership between Reckitt and Keel Drive, which saw the refurbishment of the trading hut supported by the Berkshire Community Foundation.
The newly restored hut has since become a hub for community events, intergenerational activities, and environmental education. Chair Meeta Nakum personally coordinated the event, overseeing safety briefings, volunteer wellbeing, and logistics. “When people from different worlds come together — corporate teams, community groups, and residents — it creates something extraordinary,” said Meeta. “Working outdoors side by side connects us to nature, reduces stress, and reminds us how much stronger we are when we act collectively.”

The project forms part of Reckitt’s “Give Time” corporate volunteering initiative, which allows employees to dedicate their time and skills to local community causes. Volunteers described the day as inspiring and restorative, with many expressing how reconnecting with nature positively impacted their wellbeing.

The transformation of the communal area now paves the way for wider community engagement. The site will soon host local families, schools, and other allotment groups to share best practices in urban gardening, biodiversity, and environmental care.

“This initiative shows how corporate responsibility and grassroots leadership can work hand in hand,” said Meeta. “It’s not just about growing plants — it’s about growing community.” Media contact: Keel Drive Allotment Association 📧 info@kdaa.uk | 🌐 http://www.kdaa.uk
