KDAA receives £1000 from
Berkshire Community Foundation for Stronger communities and Community support and development
KDAA has received a £1,000 grant from Berkshire Community
Foundation in its latest round of funding. The money will go towards the Thrive @ Keel Drive Project which aims to address social Isolation and community cohesion through the cost-of-living crisis through events and workshops.
Tenant Audit data as of 18th August 24 reveals 58 total active tenants, 33% over 65, 88% BAME, 19% with physical disability or mental health difficulty, 29% with English not primary language. Surveyed tenants identified that 32% are carers for children, elderly parent or family members. 92% visit the allotment at least once a week. 92% agree events would help improve community relationships and would make them feel less isolated. 88% of tenants expressed interest in workshops for recycling/compost production, allotment budgeting and renewable energy
The grant would enable us to have :
Better resources to enhance community cohesion through events, educational sessions, and outreach initiatives. These include social seasonal events to increase informal learning and to improve community relationships, so tenants get to know each other and are not isolated.
Educational workshops focusing on recycling/compost production, renewable energy – water capture and allotment budgeting.
Safeguarding and Equality and Diversity Policy training for the
committee and all its volunteers.
Better Outreach: Partnering with SAF and other allotments in the borough to widen the reach of these activities. Develop an official web domain/social media presence for the local community
KDAA are a constituted elected committee constructed of volunteers as of June 2023. We liaise and work in partnership with both the local authority, Slough borough council (SBC), and Slough allotment federation(SAF) to provide support to tenants of the allotment. The committee meets once monthly and provides advisory services, skills training and events for our tenants. We aim to transition towards self-management to develop better community cohesion in a multiculturally diverse and economically challenged area. We aim to maximise our occupancy rate by working closely with the council.
Jon Yates, CEO of Berkshire Community Foundation, said: “At Berkshire
